This weekend C. hung this chandelier that he
painted for me last weekend. It used to be the
same color as the chain. I wanted a brightly
colored chandelier after I saw this one
which is way cooler than mine.

...It worked!

Now I've just got to get rid of the gray walls and
go yellow, which means I will need to make new curtains
too.

And I also got this to work thanks to a great
website called tandtrepair. It's my Mom's Singer
sewing machine from the 1970's. It went haywire
on me after I helped an ex-boyfriend make a
Halloween costume with fake fur. That's the last
project I do for an ex-boyfriend.

Birthday, Anniversary and a New Car?

Tomorrow my brother will turn 24. He is a chef and has to work tomorrow so the parental units took us all out to celebrate tonight. Tomorrow is also the 2-year anniversary of the dealth of our 1983 volvo 240 wagon (thanks to a lady who ran a redlight). My parents bought it new, so I rode in it to preschool and got to drive it to college.

After the accident I wanted another car that would take a beating like that. I settled for a 1986 volvo 240 sedan. It's in great shape, and I like the sunroof, but I miss my wagon and manual tranmission. Someday I will get another wagon, so every once in a while I check out ebay and other sites to see what's out there. This is what I came across tonight on ebay:

Too bad I don't live in Sweden (or need a hearse). I think I'll stick to looking for a wagon with 4 doors.

Whistle While I Work

I had a pretty good day at my new job location, and semi-new job. I am training program at my work and get to move around to different departments every week or month or so. I am looking for spending a while in this area. At least I'll have lots of practice with AutoCAD until I move to a new group in July.
After my workday I felt rested enough to get some cleaning done before settling on the couch for some ~~TV watching~~, knitting and reading. Before I started on my chores I decided to make a new playlist on my iPod for that activity. I chose 3 artists and set the iPod to shuffle the songs. Here are a few I remember came up and are particularly good to listen to (with the stereo cranked), while cleaning:

The Windy City Scarf from Stitch N Bitch - This was supposed to be for a friend’s Birthday last March, but I’m not a huge fan of the colors. She approved and I will finish it *soon*.

The Felted Hat from Fibertrends, -A mistake has left me with the wrong number of stitches andI'm not in a hurry to deal with it.

Miss Dashwood from knitty.com - finished the hat, but it doesn't have the flaps yet. I don't think I did the bobbles right, and I really don't care to attempt those freakin' things anytime soon.

Anthropologie inspired capelet from Craftster.org- Another mistake-this one may require me to “frog it” (rip it out for those non-knitters out there.) Or find a way to like with the mistake.

Another felted project.- Details to follow…

The rest of the felted pumpkin I knit my mom for Christmas. She got the bottom half, but I didn’t get the right color to do the stem and vine before I gave it to her. Those parts are both knitted and are waiting for their trip to the washing machine.

Felt Up!

Here are a few pictures from one of my recient kntting projects. The felted vase is a pattern from Plymouth Design Studio and was knit with galway yarns. I’ve made a few more vases, and they are pretty easy once you learn how to use double pointed needles.

Yesterday I requested my mom to do some more blogging, and I’d thought I’d return the favor. I've stolen her idea from Monday's “Score Card” post.

So here’s my Score Card:

I'm rating myself with things that need to be done for the holidays.

5 = really, really behind/not going to happen

3 - Mailing Christmas cards (I’ve done about ½)
4 – Deciding the type and purchasing ingredients for the 8 or so dozen cookies I have to make for a cookie exchange party this Sunday
3 - Christmas shopping (Also done about ½, but at least all of it has been on the internet so far. I even got free shipping from all 3 sites. My goal was to do 100% without having to listen to horrible remakes of Christmas songs in a store, or deal with all the other madness involved with shopping this time of year. For the rest of my shopping I’m guessing I’ll have to put up with that crap. )
2 - Christmas tree decorated (Again, done about ½. I have lights but no ornaments. Those will be up before I go to sleep. I can’t even take credit for getting the tree; my mom got it this past Sunday. Theodor Geisel would be proud .)

5 – Cleaning my house before Christmas (If my Dad was here he’s say “It looks like a tornado went through here!” …and I’d have to agree with him. I image it will only get worse-see next item.)

Friends, Family, Dogs and a Turkey

The Thanksgiving holiday went pretty well, other than it was too hot. My Friend came home from Urbana/Champagne, IL where she goes to school. She had not yet seen my house, and she came over one night last week with her dog Sancho (that's him in the picture) and spent the night. We ate Sushi, drank champagne and watched a girly movie- just what old friends are supposed to do when they haven’t seen each other in a while. I can’t say the Jennifer Love Hewitt movie wasn't all that great, but we did have a fun evening.

The kitties I was babysitting got to go home last week, so I haven’t had any pets in my house since. In addition to Sancho in my house I also rescued a very cute Beagle on Thanksgiving that spent the afternoon with me until I was able to locate his owner. I enjoyed having the company of those two dogs, but I think my next pet will definitely be a cat or two.
Thanksgiving dinner was prepared by the wonderful cook Red Molly. I helped a little, but mostly just made 2 pumpkin pies, from a recipe out of The Silver Pallet Cookbook. The entire crew at the table that night included my parents Mr. And Mrs. Red Molly, my grandmother, Nowhere Nick, and a few other friends. I won’t go into it because Nowhere Nick summed it up pretty well here. After I left the parental unit’s house I went to a party near my house with some of my friends who joined us for dinner. Nothing out of the ordinary about this party, but I was sitting out on the front porch (did I mention it's still warm here) and heard someone playing guitar singing the line “my favorite color scheme.” For those of you familiar with Red Molly’s blog that’s a line from the Richard Thompson song “1952 Vincent Black Lighting.” I new I wanted to hear the rest of the song so I joined the people inside. After that song the 2 guys playing guitar suggested doing “a band song”, I was thrilled, I just hoped the meant a song from The Band and not their band. Well not only did they play a song by The Band, but the played "The Weight", definitely my favorite!
Last week I got a chance to spend a lot of time doing some of my favorite things. I watched quite a few movies last week. Tuesday I went a saw Walk the Line, the new Johnny Cash movie which was better than expected. I thought Reese Witherspoon was exceptional at portraying June Carter. Another movie I was last week that I would recommend to Amelie fans is City of Lost Children; both movies were directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. I watched a part of The Life Aquatic, but never finished it. I think I’ll just watch Royal Tenenbaums when I want to see a Wes Anderson movie.
Knitting is another activity that I had the chance to do a lot of last week (this was partly due to being sick Saturday and Sunday). I haven’t finished the anthropologie capelet yet, but I just felted a vase from a Plymouth Yarns patterns. I think it turned out nicely, and pictures should come soon. Of course listening to lots of music goes along with lots of knitting, because I’m less likely to make a mistake and turn my current project into as Red Molly says “A such-n-such DAMN knitting project.”
I’m sick of typing. Off to more knitting….

Brunch, baby, and the BG

Just short post about my weekend: I got to spend Friday evening with my Dad at a party at the library, enjoyed a beer in the cold and then dinner the Burrito Gallery. Saturday I had fun babysitting for my friend’s baby and then went out drinkin’. Sunday I went to brunch at another local restaurant and did some more drinkin’. I finished up the weekend with a wonderful dinner prepared by Nowhere Nick.

Unfortunately, Shadow and Cocoa-

the two cat’s I’ve been taking care of for the last month or so got to go home today, so my house is very lonely. I think I’ll just have to get some kitties of my own soon.

Well, after some persuasion from fellow bloggers red molly, nowhere nick and tennessee jed I think it's about damn time I really start a blog. It's been a year since my first post, so I'm just going to consider this as a fresh start.
A lot of things have happened in the past year. I am of course a year older and I hope a year wiser, but I'm not so sure about that sometimes.
The most exciting thing that has happened is I bought my first house. It's a cute little bungalow built around 1927. It had been renovated a few years before I bought it so there are lots of new things, but it's the original parts I like best. I love the hardwood floors, the front porch (even though it's too freakin' hot to sit out on most of the year here), the original doors and windows. I really like the fireplace that doesn't work (but as I just said it's too freakin' hot here most of the year to use it anyways). I no longer live with my parents, or my brother, but I currently live with 2 cat's that aren't mine and will soon return home to their rightful owners.
A year ago I had just started my job at the local utility company. I still work there but have moved up to a Junior Engineer position. More on that later.
So other than the things that come along with owning a house and working to pay mortgage I try to find time for the more important things in life like family, friends, great music, interesting movies, knitting, a little drinking and even reading. I’m sure that my blog will consist of themes mostly related to those topics.

This is my first entry to my blog. I am 24 years old and live with my parents, my younger brother and 2 cats. I have a degree in Civil Engineering and recently started working for the local utility company.
This morning I volunteered and planted shrubs along a expressway near downtown. I'm about to try to do some Christmas shopping online, before I have to work go work one of my last shifts at my old job.
